Abingdon

Around the turn of the 1st century the town was know by the Old English name Abbandune and then Ab(b)endone.

The name derives from ‘Hill of a man called Ebba or a woman called Ebbe’
Sutton Courtenay

Suthtun c.870, Sudtone 1086, Suttone Curteney 1284,

Sutton meaning,
South Town or Farm, being south of Abingdon.
Courtenay was added in the 12th century, being a manorial affix from the Curtenai family.
