This is the history of the maternal side of my family tree as far back as I can trace. I have included all the facts I have found so far, together with certificates and a few pictures of my ancestors. Please enjoy the website and let me know if you find any errors or can add new information.

McIntyre, McInteer, McEntire, McAteer............

Comes from the Gaelic name, Mac an tSaoir. Which translated means ‘the son of a mason or carpenter’.

No information about any living relative appears on this site without their expressed permission.
For continuity I have added the words - Privacy Respected, where there maybe or still is a living relative.

As I research further back into the parish records, the name McIntyre becomes corrupted into MacIntyre; but following up records leave me in no doubt that this is the same family-line, so I have kept the modern day spelling constant throughout. Also corrupted is the name House - Howse and Sutton Courtney - Sutton Courtenay.

Latest Update

I am indebted to a 3rd cousin of mine, Nick Bilton, for being able to add a new branch to my family tree and for sending me photos relating to Arthur George Whitehead (my 1st cousin twice removed). We share the same Great Great Grandparents in Benjamin Whitehead & Elizabeth Leech.
